About the author

Melinda Woods is the author of the book, “Totally Restored and Faithfully Adored.” She was born on the 2nd of July 1960, and she is a native San Antonian.

Being the tenth of eleven children, she was never lonely because she had nine older siblings and one younger brother to keep her company.  Her parents always felt she displayed a maturity level beyond her years despite her being one of the youngest children.  She always had a fascination for writing poetry.

As a Southpaw (left-handed) person, she faced many challenges because many devices were designed for right-handed people.  When it came to being taught or trying to learn from others it was more difficult.  This motivated her to become very independent. Melinda was an above-average student who excelled in her studies throughout her primary and secondary school years. She was very active in sports and played varsity volleyball and basketball during high school.

Ms. Woods attended Texas Southern University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and an associate degree in Art.  Melinda enjoys writing so much that she would enter some of her poetry pieces into a national poetry contest as early as middle school.  As a matter of fact, the first piece of poetry in her book entitled “Unfaithful Love” was recognized and published in The World’s Greatest Book of Poetry.  This motivated her to want to spend the rest of her life writing in hopes of writing her book.

After earning her bachelor’s degree and being unable to find a job in her area of study, Ms. Woods became a teacher’s assistant in San Antonio Independent School District for four years.  This sparked her interest and desire to become an educator.  Then, she was allowed to enter the Alternative Teacher Certification to obtain her teaching certificate.

Upon receiving her Teaching Certificate, she began teaching in the primary grades in Harlandale Independent School District. After four years, she transferred to the San Antonio Independent School District where she taught a variety of grade levels.

While teaching, she decided twelve years later to finally pursue a master’s degree in school guidance and counseling. Once completing her master’s, she became a School Counselor for six years before retiring.

Ms. Woods retired after 25 years as an Educator and 6 years as a School Counselor.  Once retired, she had several things she wanted to get off her bucket list. Her biggest feat she wanted to accomplish was to become a published author.

It is with great honor to say, Melinda became a published author on April 14, 2023. Mission accomplished!

In her spare time, Melinda enjoys writing, painting, drawing, crocheting, playing volleyball, basketball, and creating do-it-yourself arts and crafts to share with others.
